Home electric car charging has many different components that need to be considered. From where you charge your ev charging station to what type of ev charger is installed, electric vehicle charging at home has various areas. Here are some tips with home electric car charging:
- AC chargers are connected directly to the car while DC chargers have a charging cable connect to the car
- Depending on the ev charger it can take from 20-60 minutes to 24 hours plus to charge the car
- Charging the electric vehicle will depend on the electricity rate and geographical location but it can cost from $2.10 to $5
- To install a home charger it on average costs $1000-$6000 depending on the charging infrastructure

Many thanks to The Local Electrician team who were all courteous, considerate and competent sparkies. Working in teams of two over 3 consecutive days they solved problems, installed new meters and re-cabled much of our double storey, double brick home in Earlwood. Built in 1939 it provided challenges but the team remained unfazed and got the job done with a smile and pats for our dogs. Special thanks to Dylan, Nick, John and Justin for leading the way. They pointed out some safety issues at the switchboard and even asked to call a family member to discuss the findings and walk through some suggested solutions. These guys are the best.!We has a fuse fail and needed quick help. We called three companies for their advertised emergency service - two didn’t answer and one said he had no one availableThese guys answered out of hours on a Sunday and had Nick arrive first thing in the morning to patch the connection and a then team led by Reggie returned the next morning to replace the board causing the fault all within a couple of hours and in the rain and a great fair price for the hustle and expertise.Can’t beat the service and the reliability.Thanks againRich

He was on time, very friendly and helpful.He listened to the issue (which I had tried to sort with several other electricians) and he explained the options of what could be the problem.He didn’t try to push us to get unnecessary work done as other electricians had done. What is the Difference Between Electric Vehicle AC Charging and DC Charging?
There are two types of EV charging options but it will depend on the type of electric vehicle, charging speeds and the station. AC charging is often cheaper and easier to install but is often slower to charge. The charger is mostly connected to an electrical outlet and the charger is already connected to the vehicle. DC charging is faster and a cable connects to the car from a charging station but is often more expensive to install.
How Long Does Electric Car Charging Take?
Charging times will vary depending on the car’s type, charging station model, car’s battery size and the temperature. How much the charger needs to charge and the charger’s maximum charge rate will also influence the time. The average times for charging an electric car at home are:
- Wall socket – 24 hours plus
- Home wall box – 7-12 hours
- AC charging – 4-7 hours
- DC fast charging – 1-2 hours
- DC ultra fast charging – 20-60 minutes
How Much Does EV Charging at Home Cost?
The cost of charging the vehicle will differ for each person as there are many different factors involved. Charging during peak or off-peak times to where in Australia the car is being charged will influence the price. Having the car charged from zero to full, the electric vehicle type and the type of charger will also influence the charging costs.
Charging the car at home during off-peak hours can cost $2.10 and during peak hours $5. At times, to charge the car it can rise to $8-$20 spending on the above factors.

I called for a quote and Dylan came the next day. I ended up getting the whole service of repairs to our power board and installation of a new hot water system the same day. Amazing service! Thanks Dylan and Dakota for an unexpected level of service when I only expected a quote. Highly recommended!

From the first callout after hours, the initial visit and final fit out of our new switchboard....we cannot fault this business!Phone etiquette from reception, professionalism and politeness of the 'boys' on the job and the clean up, again can't be faulted.Highly recommend.

Many thanks to The Local Electrician team who were all courteous, considerate and competent sparkies. Working in teams of two over 3 consecutive days they solved problems, installed new meters and re-cabled much of our double storey, double brick home in Earlwood. Built in 1939 it provided challenges but the team remained unfazed and got the job done with a smile and pats for our dogs. Special thanks to Dylan, Nick, John and Justin for leading the way. A truely admirable corporate culture and really nice blokes all round. Highly recommended!

My mother had no power throughout half her house last week and was in need of an electrician. She called the local electrician, and Dylan came out and found the fault within minutes, leaving my mother very pleased. They pointed out some safety issues at the switchboard and even asked to call a family member to discuss the findings and walk through some suggested solutions. My mother hasn't been doing too well lately, and I really appreciate that they called me to discuss the options. After the discussion, we came to a conclusion, and the team was out there the next day to rectify the issues. I really appreciate that they called before proceeding with the works. My mother is very happy with the work and will use them from now on. Based on my experience, I will also be enquiring about future work at my house. Much appreciated to the local electrician team! I dealt for the very first time with The Local Electrician. It was an after hours emergency. The prompt response I received from the receptionist lady is / was highly commendable. When the receptionist lady said I will ring you back, she did it within a minute or two. I felt comfortable and assured 10/10++++.The electricians that came to my house to assess and rectify the problem were approachable, very polite and helpful. My rating 10/10++++

These guys are the best.!We has a fuse fail and needed quick help. We called three companies for their advertised emergency service - two didn’t answer and one said he had no one availableThese guys answered out of hours on a Sunday and had Nick arrive first thing in the morning to patch the connection and a then team led by Reggie returned the next morning to replace the board causing the fault all within a couple of hours and in the rain and a great fair price for the hustle and expertise.Can’t beat the service and the reliability.Thanks againRich

We recently carried out major renovations to our apartment and was very satisfied with the work the local Electricians did for us. Nathan and his team arrived onsite on time and completed the work required, keeping me informed along the way as I was travelling interstate. Today had Justin and Braidon attend the call out. They replaced two old lights with new LED oyster lights. They were both very friendly and polite. No question was too small. They were quick and efficient, despite the old wiring providing a few challenges. This is the second or third time I have called on The Local Electrician, and I will do so again when needed.

So we had Reggie and Branden out at our place to set up our outdoor lightning, sound system and fix the electrical in our granny flat. We had Marcus and John from The Local Electrician come out to run a cable from downstairs to upstairs for our internet to work. The guys were great and super easy to talk to! They were very helpful, took their time and even spoke to our provider so that our wifi was up and running before they left. We really appreciate the work they did for us and the patience they had. Great experience with these guys!Firstly, Dylan came for the initial appointment. He was very skilled, friendly and didn’t freak out about the size of the job like the 3 previous electricians we saw. He explained me very clearly what needed to be done and gave us a competitive quote on the spot.Justin and Braiden came to complete the job today and did an excellent job. We had a great experience with Patrick, Marcus, Reggie and the team from The Local Electrician. Would highly recommend for anyone looking to find an electrician. We had a few jobs that needed doing from mounting a TV to installing a floodlight and having our down-lights in our kitchen replaced and fans installed in our bedrooms. They always kept us informed with any updates they had on the work they were doing and always informed us if there was anything we needed to confirm. Will be back again!

We had an amazing experience with Nick. He was on time, very friendly and helpful.He listened to the issue (which I had tried to sort with several other electricians) and he explained the options of what could be the problem.He didn’t try to push us to get unnecessary work done as other electricians had done. Instead suggested getting the hot water system checked first as that was possibly the issue. Turns out that is what it was and an easy fix.Would 100% recommend The Local Electrician.Thanks Nick for helping us sort this issue that had caused our electricity bill to sky rocket!
